HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF READING YOUR BIBLE:

Have you ever read the Bible and then after reading it, you forgot what you just read? It has happened to me too many times. Speaking from experience, my devotional life has become more meaningful and memorable because of life journaling. Here’s how life journaling works.

 1. You need a bible reading plan (www.readyourbibledaily.com).
2. You need a Bible
3. You need a journal
4. You need a pen or pencil.

You can start at anytime! Look for today’s date and you will see the reading plan for today, i.e., Genesis 1-3 and Acts 1. You only need to select one verse from one chapter, not one verse from each chapter you read. On your journal page here is what you write:

S – Scripture. Write the verse or verses that jump out at you.
O – Observation. You can restate what the verse says or you can write something you observed from the verses.
A – Application. How will you be different today because of what you read? How can you apply this verse to your life?
P – Prayer. Write a simple prayer asking God to help you life out this verse for the day.  Here is a sample of one of my life journal entries:

“Living in HD”Life Journal – Jeff Craig January 12, 2009

S: “Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:26-27)

O:
There are two things that God did when He created man. He created man in His pattern and He created man in His image.

A: I want to reflect the image of God when people see my life. Also, I want to follow God’s original pattern for my life; I want to live in High Definition. How do I reflect God’s image in HD?  I must be sure to stay close and stay clean. I can remain clean by renewing my mind daily in God’s Word. Also, I can make sure my actions match my beliefs in Him; holy character is important when reflecting a Holy God. Since I am patterned after God it is important that I follow His blueprint for my life. I must avoid the temptations of the world and its relentless desire to conform me into a different image. God’s pattern and the world’s pattern are not the same. I need to recognize which pattern I’m following in every decision I make.

P:“God, thank you for making me in Your image. Help me to be a reflection of You. I pray I won’t be a dull, dirty, fuzzy reflection but a high definition reflection of Your image. Please enable me to follow Your pattern for my life. In every decision I make I want to follow You. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.”

Give your journal entry a title and you are all set! Also, you will enjoy looking back over the things you have written in your life journal; you are actually documenting your spiritual growth. I know this method will help you grow in God’s Word and apply it to your life. Enjoy!
